Oikos - "our seed trees were grown from a selection with darker colored fruit and the Hungarian strain." Let fully ripen on tree. Fruits 3-6 yrs from seedling; similar taste to sour cherry. z3-9, may need 2 plts for pollination. (other) Height 15’-25’. fruit has an elongated pit that is hard to remove because it adheres tightly to the edible flesh. Fruit ripens over an extended period of time, requiring multiple harvests. blooms early in the season, providing an early season forage for bees. Despite the early bloom, fruit production rarely suffers because the trees have an extended flowering, and the bloom tolerates temperatures as low as 18 deg. 2023 - Plant had a real hard time with the record heat and drought in May and June. Leaves were often curled between waterings. Having been transplanted late last year I'm sure didn't help. It did appear to make it through the season though. 2022 - Little plant doing fine. Realized it would grow too large for spot it was in. Transplanted it to north of Southworth Pear. 2021 - Survived winter, looking better. Transplanted to row above garden by tank.2020 - Tops winterkilled again. Oneplant regrew. 2019 - Tops winterkilled but regrew ~5". Healthy. 2018 - Two small 3-4" plants from Oikos. Put in nursery.
