Original tree by Fox Road appears to be part of Emma & Joe Hardy farm old orchard, half dead but one side alive. Other orchard trees inside fence and now dead mostly due to cows (pasture). Moderate sized tree with 1 1/2" fruit, pretty yellow and red late summer, later all red. Tart but pleasant flavor. Seems likely a named variety but don’t know what. Possibly planted in the 40’s.

2022 - #1 - Slow but steady. Still having leaf issues but doing OK. Had not been inclined to grow upward but pruned to encourage a top bud and had a nice 8" new leader growth. 32" tall now.   #2/#3 (NEorch) - slowly growing, looking good.

2021 - #1 - a little rough but doing OK.   #2 - slowly growing, looks good.  Noticed seedling, healthy, still growing in nursery, either I missed it or it regrew. Transplanted (#3) to se corner of NEOrchard in November.

2020 - Chose best of 3 in nursery and transplanted 10/24 to east-north spot (inside fence) (#1). Looks good. Pulled others. NEOrchard seedling (#2) doing fine.

2019 - Fruit/seeds planted last Dec. grew four good plants, good growth 6-8". Mid October transplanted one to NorthEast Orchard. Transplanted 3 within nursery plot to transplant later.

2018 - Mid December found 3 frozen, mushy fruit under original tree. Brought home and mashed into ground in nursery plot, covered lightly. Also cut scion to graft (see Emma's Crab page).
